James Jean's new limited edition ceramic sculpture finds renewal in ancient myth.

Blossom Vessel is an intricate vase inspired by the Māori creation story, in which the Sky Father and Earth Mother are pushed apart by their offspring, thus creating the world by allowing light to flood into the space between them. Jean expands on his previous explorations of this myth in a rare ceramic edition – with the deep fissures in the surface crafted to resemble cracked earth, hinting at the emergence of something waiting beneath. Through this new medium, Jean evokes the story’s themes of geological time, erosion and growth.

This limited edition sculpture is signed by the artist on the base. Variations in colour and glaze as a result of the firing process render each piece completely unique. It has been crafted alongside an exclusive print, titled Blossom Kannyu and available as part of the release, with lower and matching edition numbers for those collecting both pieces.
