Giuseppe Penone draws from his 1970 performance Rovesciare i propri occhi (Reversing One’s Eyes) in the first of two limited edition prints.
Two years after the original performance, in which Penone wore mirrored contact lenses that stopped him from being able to see, he assembled various photographs of the piece into a striking and disquieting collage. The resulting work explores themes of blindness, myth, and the power and purpose of documentation.
Now, Penone releases the piece as a fine art limited edition print, each individually signed and featuring the title of the work written in the artist’s own hand.
“The pursuit of understanding the world around us, beyond the confines of convention, is a fundamental aspect of artistic expression.” – Giuseppe Penone in conversation with Alain Elkann
