Matt DesLauriers presents a new work created especially for Digital Art Season at the Victoria & Albert Museum.

Serac comes in two forms, a physical print and a digital collection, each created from the same generative system and sold separately.

The print is a 2-colour limited edition silkscreen, finished with a matte varnish seal and signed by the artist. It fixes a single composition, foregrounding DesLauriers’ research into line and mark-making while reflecting the fractured glacial formations referenced in the title.

The accompanying generative digital NFT collection extends this investigation through shifting colour palettes inspired by works in the V&A’s collection, with each iteration producing a unique composition curated by the artist.

For each artwork sold, 14% of the price you pay, excluding any shipping and/or minting costs, will be donated to the V&A.

Matt DesLauriers2 collaborationsMatt DesLauriers wants to change the way we think about generative art. Inspired by generative pioneers such as Vera Molnar and Georg Nees, as well as internet-era software like Processing, DesLauriers examines what generative art has meant historically, and its possibilities for the future. He is fascinated by all things method and process, which he believes is too often neglected. “While the software is the source of all these artworks, the code is usually forgotten about in favour of a static reproduction.” DesLauriers proposes a view that considers “software as art” so that the making of the art is just as integral to the work as the final product.
