a print edition of a faceless figure in a sports jersey against a turquoise background

Edition of 2564.8 (H) × 48.5 (W) cmShipping est. 2 weeks

In Tiff, Shaina McCoy sets a faceless portrait in a sea of textured turquoise.

Translating an original painting into print form, the edition takes inspiration from family archives and photographs. Discernible only by her dark hair and sports jersey, the subject’s eschewed features create a sense of universality – encouraging the viewer to make connections with their own memories. McCoy’s thick application of oil paint and broad brushstrokes are closely replicated using innovative UV flatbed techniques, mimicking her rich painterly surfaces through layers of raised texture.

Framing

Prints can be ordered float-mounted in a bespoke oak wood frame, fitted with UV plexiglass for protection.

artist in a studio sitting down and smiling against paintings

Shaina McCoy2 collaborationsArtist and archivist Shaina McCoy channels nostalgia in faceless portraits rendered in thick impasto. She works from her own personal archives which include a vast range of images, many of them quintessential examples of stiffly-posed family portraits from the 1980s and 90s. Intentionally omitting the facial features of her subjects, McCoy instead focuses on their posture, interactions and clothing. Despite this anonymity, her compositions retain a sense of intimacy, told through gentle embraces and details like hair ribbons and jewellery. With a predominantly pastel palette and thick layers of oil paint, the works are designed to embody the candy-coated glaze of childhood - and the emotional memories that remain once concrete details are forgotten.
