Alex Katz, born in 1927, is one of the most recognised and widely exhibited artists of his generation, with a career spanning over seven decades. Celebrated for his vibrant portraits and landscapes, painted primarily from life, Katz has dedicated his career to developing a distinctive style characterised by refined compositions, large swathes of bold colour and pristine, flat surfaces.
His work has been the subject of over 250 solo exhibitions and nearly 500 group exhibitions around the world, and is held in almost 100 significant public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Tate.
