With a blossoming symbol of growth and renewal, Marcela Flórido explores the beauty of self discovery.

Playful, sensitive, bold – Flórido’s first print edition, BLOOM, embodies her intentions as an artist. The edition is based on a large-scale painting from 2022, an experiment in symmetry. Flórido foregrounds her cartoonish pseudo-self, a recurring subject for her recent artworks. She draws from a wealth of art historical references, from Modernism to Baroque, Hilma Af Klimt to Tarsal do Amaral, culminating in a vibrant exploration of selfhood.

Each print has been uniquely hand-finished by the artist with flowers in a variety of colours, patterns and mediums, inviting collectors to connect with their print on a deeper level.

Framing

Prints can be ordered float-mounted in one of three framing options – matte black painted wood, matte white painted wood and unpainted abachi.

Medium

UV flatbed print with silkscreen varnish seal on 410gsm Somerset Tub Sized Satin paper, uniquely hand-finished with a variety of media including oil paint, acrylic paint, gouache, coloured pencil, graphite, pastel and oil stick.

Marcela Flórido1 collaborationMarcela Flórido’s work reclaims the female form through self portraits. Steeped in memories, place and identity, her figures are always female – hybrids of herself and the women in her life. Her process begins by directly drawing onto canvas, often in freestyle. As her memories combine, Flórido obsessively repaints the oil on canvas, constantly redefining the composition. Colours are inventive, intuitive, and applied directly through trial and error. Inspired by artists like Beatriz González, Luchita Hurtado, and Terezinha, she questions “how we inhabit or imagine identity, and place, in our constant redefinition of home.”
