A defining work by Eddie Martinez becomes a boldly charismatic limited edition silkscreen print.

Olive Garden takes its name from the infamous American restaurant chain – a knowing joke that doubles as art historical reference, the olive grove being one of the most enduring motifs of classical painting. Full of power and life, the work reflects Eddie's rhythmic, dance-like approach to making art, built through instinct and physical momentum. Nature and everyday life form the bedrock of his visual language.

To create the edition, printers at our London fine art print studio, Make–Ready, meticulously translated the painting into vibrant silkscreen layers, preserving both the colour and energy of the original.

Your whole body's involved. You're not just painting with your hand — you're stepping in, stepping out, reaching, zooming out and in, almost circling the thing.

Eddie Martinez2 collaborations"Think about it. Eddie Martinez is making visual poetry." These are the words of art historian Phyllis Tuchman, and she's spot on. Martinez's paintings and sculptures are a wild ride with the flow and energy of Beat poetry or Dada wordplay. His infectiously energetic brush strokes and full-on compositions (which he often repeats again and again in slightly different ways) have a physical rhythm to them – like poetry, music or dance. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this comes from the nature of his studio practice. The way he paints and sculpts is athletic. Up and about, singing and often talking to himself. The restless energy in his body needs a place to go, and that place is his art.
